Bologna Exhibition
Until 15 February 2026, Palazzo Fava presents Michelangelo and Bologna, a major exhibition celebrating the 550th anniversary of the birth of Michelangelo Buonarroti. The exhibition explores the relationship between the artist and the city of Bologna, a key place in his artistic training and career.
The itinerary retraces the pivotal moments of Michelangelo’s stays in Bologna, beginning in 1494, when he created the celebrated sculptures for the Ark of Saint Dominic, which testify to his early artistic maturity. The exhibition also reconstructs Bologna under the Bentivoglio family, a vibrant cultural center between the 15th and 16th centuries, and examines the artist’s second stay (1506–1508), connected to the lost bronze statue of Pope Julius II.
Alongside works by Michelangelo, the exhibition features pieces by artists such as Ercole de’ Roberti, Francesco Francia, Lorenzo Costa, and Amico Aspertini, highlighting the rich artistic context of the period.
